The Marlins started the game off on a strong note scoring the first three goals of the contest in the opening eight minutes. Natalie Dunn scored a pair that sandwiched a goal by Helen Kennedy-Butler. The Quakers scored a pair of goals that sandwiched a Sam Hill goal while Breanna Sviland scored the last goal of the first quarter to give VWU a 5-2 lead heading into the second quarter.
Both teams combined to score three goals in the second quarter with Virginia Wesleyan scoring twice and Guilford once. The Marlins goals came off the sticks of Mikayla Callahan and Michaela Elston as VWU went into the halftime break with a 7-3 advantage.
The Quakers scored the first goal after returning from the intermission before the Marlins posted a trio of scores taking a six goal lead, 10-4. Elston and Kenned-Butler got their second goals of the game while Mikayla Szudera scored her first of the contest. Guilford cut the Virginia Wesleyan lead to four, 10-6, after a pair of back-to-back goals, but VWU responded by closing out the quarter with two goals of their own to reclaim the six goal lead, 12-6. Szudera and Elston scored one goal each of the last two in the third quarter.
Sam Hill added her second goal of the day 59 seconds into the fourth quarter off a pass from Kennedy-Butler. GC scored one a little over three minutes later that put the score at 13-7, before VWU's Natalie Dunn scored her third of the day from a Szudera pass. Guilford scored the last two goals of the game as Virginia Wesleyan held firm to win the game 14-9.
