The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins women's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Bridgewater Eagles 10–4 in the first round of the ODAC Championship in Bridgewater, Virginia. Despite the result, the Marlins showed resilience and determination throughout the contest.
Bridgewater set the tone early, taking a 2–0 lead in the opening quarter and extending it to 5–0 early in the second. Virginia Wesleyan continued to battle, breaking through midway in the second quarter when
Reese Morgenthaler scored an unassisted goal to spark the offense.
Naomi Schneider added another late in the half to cut the deficit to 5–2 at the break.
Coming out of halftime, the Marlins carried that momentum as Morgenthaler netted her second goal of the game off an assist from
Kenna Duplechin, pulling Virginia Wesleyan within two. The Eagles responded with a scoring run to regain control, but the Marlins never backed down.
Jasmine Gorney capped the scoring for Virginia Wesleyan with a player-up goal in the fourth quarter, assisted by Morgenthaler. Morgenthaler led the Marlins with two goals and an assist, while Schneider and Gorney each contributed a goal.
While the season concludes with the loss, Virginia Wesleyan closes the year with valuable experience and a strong foundation to build on. The Marlins' effort, growth, and competitiveness throughout the season set the stage for continued progress moving forward.
