The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team (9-6, 4-3 ODAC) defeated conference opponent Guilford 20-5 on the road.
Reese Morgenthaler led the offense with nine goals on 11 shots, grabbed four ground balls, four caused turnovers, and three draw controls. Kenna Duplechin registered five goals, one assist, two ground balls, caused four turnovers, and led the team with 11 draw controls. Gianna Delavan had one goal, two assists, four ground balls, and caused one turnover.
Melissa Dolt got the win in net, she played 45 minutes, allowed three goals, and made three saves. Shayla Hayes finished the last quarter of the game and allowed in two goals.
Guilford scored first, but Virginia Wesleyan answered quickly. Reese Morgenthaler tied it off with an assist from Gianna Delevan. Morgenthaler then scored again twice to give the Marlins the lead. After Guilford tied it 2-2, Morgenthaler scored back-to-back goals to make it 4-2. Maddisen Selvage scored off a pass from Creelyn Bastinelli, and Bastinelli added another goal late in the quarter. Virginia Wesleyan led 6-3 after one.
Morgenthaler opened the scoring again with two more goals to push the lead to 8-3. Bastinelli scored off an assist from Kenna Duplechin to make it 9–3. Morgenthaler added another goal, and Duplechin scored late in the quarter. Virginia Wesleyan shut out Guilford in the second and took an 11-3 lead into halftime.
Duplechin started the half with a goal off a pass from Daphne Myers. Morgenthaler followed with another goal to make it 13-3. Duplechin scored again, then Morgenthaler answered with another goal. Duplechin added her third goal of the quarter off a pass from Maddisen Selvage. Jasmine Gorney scored late in the quarter off an assist from Morgan Stapleton. Virginia Wesleyan led 17-3 after three.
Vivian Spillman opened the quarter with a goal. After Guilford scored, Gianna Delevan answered with a goal. Duplechin scored the final Virginia Wesleyan goal off an assist from Delevan. The Marlins won 20-5.
