GAME RECAP
The Marlins controlled most of the first half of play scoring eight goals in the opening 30 minutes of action. VWU posted six goals in the first quarter and two in the second to lead 8-0 at the halftime break.
Camryn Gavula, Helen Kennedy-Butler (3), Michaela Elston, Natalie Dunn (2), and Breanna Sviland all contributed to the Marlins run.
As the teams came out of the intermission, Virginia Wesleyan struck first as Elston scored her second goal of the game pushing the VWU lead to nine goals. The Pilgrims answered by scoring back-to-back goals, 10 seconds apart putting the score at 9-2. Kennedy-Butler responded with back-to-back goals of her own, putting the Marlins back up by nine goals, 11-2. Two more New England goals sandwiches a third score from Elston as the teams headed into the final 15 minutes with the score sitting at 12-4.
The Marlins managed to keep the Pilgrims off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter while adding three more goals of their own to take a 15-4 lead and claim the victory. VWU's three goals in the fourth came form Gavula, Kennedy-Butler, and Mikayla Callahan.
