Women's Lacrosse close regular season with a loss against Guilford

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team closed out their regular season schedule with a loss to the Quakers of Guilford College on Saturday afternoon in ODAC conference action at Birdsong Field in Virginia Beach, VA.

GAME RECAP
Virginia Wesleyan got the scoring started with a pair of goals, one each from Kayla Gush and Mikayla Szudera, to give VWU an early 2-0 lead. Guilford got on the board about five minutes after Szudera's goal putting the score at 2-1 before the Marlins responded with five consecutive goals taking a 7-1 lead with 15 minutes left in the opening half. Helen Kennedy-Butler and Gush each scored twice while Szudera added her second of the game. Guilford closed out the last 15 minutes with a 7-3 run pulling within two goals of VWU at the half. The remaining VWU goals came from Gush, Szudera, and Kennedy-Butler.

The Quakers came out of he intermission scoring four consecutive goals taking a 12-10 lead, behind a hattrick from Nia Gill. VWU's Kennedy-Butler and Camryn Gavula scored a pair of goals knotting the score at 12 all with ten minutes left in regulation. GC added two more goals to go up 14-12 with 6:20 left before Yaminah Lewis drove down the field to score her first career goal with 90 seconds left in the game as the Marlins trailed by one, 14-13. Guilford has a last second opportunity to give themselves a two goal lead as McCaine Brandt scored as time expired putting the final score at 15-13.
