ROANOKE, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team fell in their season opener 19-1 to the Maroons of Roanoke College in Roanoke, VA. The Marlins move to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in ODAC play while the Maroons are 1-0, 1-0.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Maroons started the game aggressively as they found their first goal less than a minute into the start of the contest. In the third minute of the game, Roanoke found two more goals both unassisted from Emerson Foster and Foster followed with her third goal of the game as the clock ticked under 27 minutes remaining in the first half to give the Maroons a 4-0 lead. Roanoke added nine more goals in the remaining 26 minutes of action of the first half, including two more from Foster, and two each from Molly Kasemeyer and Ellie Armstrong, to lead 13-0 at halftime.

The Marlins came out of the break to find their lone goal of the game three minutes into the return to action as Natalie Dunn scored off the assisted pass from Helen Kennedy-Butler. Roanoke put the foot on the gas and controlled the remainder of the game putting six more goals on the board to down the Marlins 19-1 in the season opener for both teams. 

VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Natalie Dunn with the lone goal for VWU. Jordan Moilanen played all 60 minutes in goal for Virginia Wesleyan giving up 19 goals but also making 12 saves. 

ROANOKE LEADERS
The Maroons were led by Emerson Foster with six goals and an assist while taking nine shots with eight on goal. Lilly Blair was just behind with four goals and an assist on eight shots, five on goal.

The women's lacrosse team is bask in action on Tuesday, March 2, when they travel to Raleigh, NC, to take on the Avenging Angels of Meredith College. First draw is set for 7 PM.
