Box Score TOWSON, Maryland - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team fell 11-7 to the Gophers of Goucher College on Sunday afternoon in Towson, MD. The Marlins move to 0-3 on the season, while GC improves to 1-0.

The game was the second road game of the season for the Marlins and the season opener for Goucher.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began with the Goucher scoring five consecutive goals going up 5-0 before the first ten minutes of play had passed. Virginia Wesleyan found their first goal in a man-down situation as Tori Manahan connected with the back of the net at the 18:13 mark. The Gophers put up their sixth goal before Manahan and Avery Frangelli scored back-to-back goals for the Marlins pulling within three points of Goucher. GC added one more goal to the board before halftime taking a 7-3 lead into the break.
VWU began the second half with an unassisted goal from Manahan 45 seconds into the resumption of play. The Gophers put another goal on the board in a man-up power-play taking an 8-4 lead with 22:57 remaining in the contest. A goal from Camryn Gavula closed the gap back to three goals on an unassisted shot to the back of the net. Goucher had a burst of energy scoring three goals in a minute and a half (18:45 - 17:14) to go ahead by six, 11-5. The Marlins fought back putting two more goals on the board, one each from Kayla Gush and Frangelli, but the clock was not on their side as the Gopher won 11-7.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Tori Manahan with three goals including two in man-down situations. Avery Frangelli added a pair of goals while Caryn Gavula and Kayla Gush each tallied one. Manahan led the Marlins in ground balls, draw controls, and caused turnovers with three in each category. Jordan Moilanen (L: 0-3) played all 60 minutes between the pipes and made 13 saves on 24 shots faced while giving up 11 goals.
GOUCHERS LEADERS
The Gophers were led by Camryn Agostino with four goals and four assists. Emily Flinn also recorded a hat trick with three goals while Julia Gazzola scored two and Gabrielle Umstead added one. Gazzola led all players with 11 draw controls while Delany Comerford and Shannon Stull tallied five ground balls each.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the second half when Goucher put three goals into the net in a minute and a half span opening a six-goal lead.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action on February 26 when they host cross-bay rival, Christopher Newport University, in a midweek nightcap. The Captains and Marlins will meet in the circle for a first draw time of 7 pm at Birdsong Field.
