Marlins Fall to Randolph-Macon

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team continued ODAC play Wednesday under the lights at Birdsong Field, falling 17-0 to Randolph-Macon College.

The Marlins were able to hold the Yellow Jackets off until the 26:36 mark when Susie Snee hit a shot off of an Alex Lightfoot assist. It would be nearly six more minutes until Randolph-Macon would find the net again. Lightfoot would get her second assist of the night when she connected with Alicia Hsieh for a goal to put Macon up 2-0 at 20:51.

Randolph-Macon would go on to score six more goals before the end of the half. Snee, Hsieh, and Lightfoot all recorded two goals in the half to help put Randolph-Macon up 8-0.

The second half looked very similar to the first as the Yellow Jackets were able to put up nine more goals before the end of regulation. Saunders Riley opened up scoring in the second half less than 30 seconds after the opening whistle. Less than a minute later, at 28:56, Hsieh recorded her third goal of the night to make the score 10-0.

Five more Yellow Jackets would score to combine for seven goals throughout the remainder of the half.

Hsieh led Randolph-Macon (5-4/2-0) and all scorers with six goals on the night. Lightfoot recorded a four-point performance off two goals and two assists.

For the Marlins, Ashley Winslow took three shots on the night, while putting one on net, while collecting three ground balls. Megan Schallock scooped four ground balls to go with two draw controls.

Alexis Pulliam finished with a career-high 14 saves, facing 31 shots on the evening.

Team ground balls were nearly even, with the Yellow Jackets holding a narrow 21-20 edge. R-MC finished with 15 of the 19 draw controls in the contest.

Virginia Wesleyan (1-8/0-2) returns to action Saturday for more ODAC action against Shenandoah University (2-6/0-1) at noon.
