Box Score Marlins Open ODAC Play at No. 4 Washington and Lee
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team opened up ODAC play Saturday afternoon with a 19-4 loss to No. 4 Washington and Lee University.
Olivia Sisson scored three of her four goals in the opening four minutes of the match to put Washington and Lee up 3-0 at the 26:28 mark. Washington and Lee would go on to score 10 more goals in a row to put the Generals up 13-0 with just under four minutes to play in the first half.
Seven different Generals were able to record a goal within that 10-goal spurt, including Sisson who notched her fourth and final goal of the night and Cordelia Peters who hit back-to-back shots at 18:02 and 12:22.
Megan Schallock was able to end run, getting the Marlins on the board with eight seconds left to play in the first half.
Maddy Graves opened up scoring in the second half when she hit the back of the net for the second time this season to extend the Generals lead back to 13 goals. Teammate Mimi MacCowatt followed up her assist to Graves with a goal of her own at the 20:52 minute mark.
Marie Lerch would score the first goal for the Marlins in the second half off a Becca Winslow assist to make the score 15-2.
Graves jumpstarted a three-goal run for W&L after scoring her second goal of the night at the 16:09 mark.
Liza Holford ended the Generals three-goal scoring streak when she hit an unassisted shot to up the Marlins goal count to three. Schallock would finish scoring for the Marlins at 2:44 to go in the game, making the score 18-4.
Sisson finished with four goals while Carson Pinney added three for the nationally-ranked Generals (8-1/2-0).
Schallock had two goals and four ground balls for the Marlins while Rachel Fuller added four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Virginia Wesleyan (1-7/0-1) returns to Birdsong Field Wednesday for a 7 p.m. start against Randolph-Macon College (4-4/1-0).
