Hornet Second Half Surge Bests Marlins 17-5

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team could not respond to a second half offensive surge from Lynchburg College as the Marlins fell 17-5 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup Wednesday.

Lynchburg started fast, scoring the games' first four goals. Kat Francis was a big catalyst of this early offensive spurt compiling a hat trick within the games' first 10 minutes.

The Marlins stopped the momentum with a free-position goal off the stick of Megan Schallock. Schallock found the back of the cage two minutes later for an unassisted goal.

The Hornets came out of the intermission and proceeded to showcase an offensive display that put the game away. Following a VWC goal from Abby Shope to open the half, Lynchburg scored six unanswered goals that would put the game out of reach.

Ashley Winslow and Marie Lerch scored second half goals for the Marlins.

Madison Carroll finished with 14 saves, while the team as a whole corralled 10 ground balls.

Francis paced the Hornets (7-3/3-1) with seven unassisted goals. Laura Meisner added three goals.

Schallock's two goals led the Marlins. Shope, Lerch, and Winslow added a goal.

Next up on Virginia Wesleyan's (2-8/1-2) slate is a trip to Greensboro, NC as they take on Guilford College (5-5/3-0) in an ODAC matchup.
