Marlin Offense Surges Past WildCats 21-11

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team dominated both halves of Saturday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest against Randolph College on pace to a 21-11 victory.

The Marlins were first on the board less than two minutes into the game with a goal off the stick of Marie Lerch. Virginia Wesleyan would go on a four-goal run until Dana Cavallo scored for the Wildcats at 21:10.

Megan Schallock scored five goals in the first half, while Becca and Ashley Winslow would add two each to the tally. Randolph's Nicole Dorton led the WildCats with two goals in the first half as they trailed the Marlins 11-5 going into halftime.

Madison Carroll pulled in four saves in the first half, tying her for the all-time single season record of 220 set by Stephanie Toppan in 2001.

Randolph came out strong in the second half scoring the first four goals of the period to cut the lead to 11-9.

Schallock stopped the spurt with her sixth goal at 24:34.

Carroll would gather her fifth save of the game at the 18:51 mark of the second half, giving her 221 saves for the record outright.

Chelsea Marciniak scored for Randolph at 17:17 to cut the edge to 14-10, but a strong Marlin offensive flood would propel them into a 7-1 scoring run until the end of the game.

Marciniak led the WildCats (2-15/1-8) with three goals and two ground balls, while Nicole Dorton gathered six draw controls and two goals.

Schallock carried the Marlins with nine goals, three assists, three ground balls, and a single-game record of 17 draw controls. Carroll made seven saves to finish with 223 for the season.

Virginia Wesleyan ends the season with a two-game winning streak to conclude with a 4-13 overall record with a 2-7 mark in ODAC play.
