Women's Lax Stumbles 16-2 at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team scored two goals in the first half, but was held scoreless in the final 30 minutes as Shenandoah University raced past the Marlins 16-2 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Saturday.

Shenandoah jumped out to three quick goals in the first eight minutes before the Marlins responded at the 20:40 mark as Ashley Winslow found Liza Holford for the score.

The Hornets continued to score, posting seven straight goals over the next 20:34 to make the score 10-1 before the Marlins broke through on a free position goal by Winslow with six seconds left before halftime.

Shenandoah scored all six second half goals while holding the Marlins to two shots in the final half.

The Hornets converted on all 16 clears and maintained a narrow 12-8 margin in draw controls.

Abby Zorrilla led Shenandoah (4-10/2-4) with five goals and two assists as Miranda Rudacille added four goals and an assist to go along with four goals from Annie McCorry.

Madison Carroll made 12 saves for the Marlins.

Virginia Wesleyan (2-11/1-5) travels to Randolph-Macon College Wednesday for a 4 p.m. ODAC start.
