The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team fell to Albright College, 10-6, on Wednesday, March 4, in Virginia Beach.
Reese Morgenthaler led the offense for the Marlins with five goals in the contest.
Kenna Duplechin added one goal to round out the scoring for Virginia Wesleyan.
Virginia Wesleyan opened the scoring in the first quarter when Morgenthaler found the back of the net early. Albright answered shortly after to tie the game, and then took the lead midway through the period. Duplechin responded with an unassisted goal to even the score at 2-2. Morgenthaler added her second goal of the quarter to give the Marlins a 3-2 advantage, but Albright closed the period with a man-up goal to tie the game at 3-3.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second quarter as the defenses controlled the pace of the game, sending the contest into halftime tied at 3-3.
Albright opened the third quarter with a goal before Morgenthaler answered to tie the game at 4-4. The Lions then took control of the momentum, scoring four straight goals to extend their lead to 8-4 heading into the fourth quarter.
Albright added another man-up goal early in the fourth quarter to push the lead to five. Morgenthaler continued her strong performance with two late goals for Virginia Wesleyan, but Albright answered with another score to seal the 10-6 victory.
Virginia Wesleyan will return to action on Monday, March 9, when the Marlins host Lycoming College at 4:00 PM in Virginia Beach.
