The Virginia Wesleyan men's volleyball team (17-7, 6-5 ODAC) put together a determined effort, but fell in four sets to No. 17 nationally ranked Randolph-Macon (25-23, 31-33, 25-22, 25-22) inside TowneBank Arena.
The Marlins (17-7, 6-5 ODAC) showed resilience throughout the match, highlighted by a thrilling second-set victory that extended well beyond the typical 25-point mark. After narrowly dropping the opening frame, Wesleyan responded with one of its strongest stretches of the night, outlasting the No. 17 Yellow Jackets 33-31 in a back-and-forth battle.
Offensively, Virginia Wesleyan was led by Ja'Marhe Wills, who delivered a team-high 20 kills while adding 14 digs in a strong all-around performance. Grant Younie followed with 16 kills on an efficient hitting clip, while James Cromwell-Young and Siah Hall each added nine kills to keep the Marlins competitive at the net.
Setter Ajaye Davis orchestrated the offense with 50 assists, helping Wesleyan post a solid .247 team hitting percentage. Defensively, the Marlins held their own with 57 digs, including double-digit efforts from Wills and Hall, while also contributing six total blocks as a team.
Randolph-Macon (22-4, 10-0 ODAC) proved steady down the stretch, using balanced offensive production and timely runs to secure the final two sets. Despite the result, Virginia Wesleyan remained within striking distance throughout, never allowing the Yellow Jackets to fully pull away.
