The Virginia Wesleyan University men's volleyball team (18-7, 7-5 ODAC) defeated Averett 3-0, winning 25-13, 25-22, 25-18.
Siah Hall led the offense with 10 kills, a .600 hitting percentage, four assists, one service ace, and seven digs.
Aiden Parker had nine kills, one assist, and two digs.
James Cromwell-Young registered eight kills, with a .667 hitting percentage, one block assist, and two digs.
The Marlins came out hot in the first set, jumping out to a 6-4 lead, but the Cougars countered with a 4-3 run to cut the lead to 9-8. However, VWU rallied with a 7-1 run to hold a healthy 16-9 lead. Averett went on a 3-2 run to stop the run, but Virginia Wesleyan rallied back with a giant 9-2 run to win set one 25-13.
Virginia Wesleyan continued their good run of play in set two, jumping out to a 7-2 run. The Cougars chipped away at the Marlins' lead over the next 28 points to tie the game at 19-19. However, VWU finished the set with a 6-3 run to win set two 25-22.
In the third set, the Marlins built a 9-4 lead early. The Cougars' offense started to come alive to bring the score to 13-8, but the Marlins went on a 3-0 run to take a 16-8 lead. Averett responded with a 5-1 run to cut the lead to 17-13. The two teams traded points to bring the score to 21-18, but the Marlins finished the set with a 4-0 run to win set three 25-18.
