The Virginia Wesleyan University men's volleyball team (22-9, 9-7 ODAC) went on the road and swept the #4 seed Randolph in the ODAC Quarterfinals, winning 26-24, 25-19, and 25-21.
JaMarhe Wills led the offense as he tallied 14 kills, with a .324 hitting percentage, four digs, and one block assist.
James Cromwell-Young registered eight kills, with a .333 hitting percentage, and two solo blocks.
Ajaye Davis had a team-high 28 assists, one kill, one service ace, and six digs.
The Marlins started hot, jumping out to a 3-0 lead, but the Wildcats fought back to bring the score to 5-3. However, VWU rallied with a 5-2 run to hold a 10-5 lead. Randolph responded with a big 10-5 run to tie the set at 15-15, but the Marlins went on a 3-0 run to lead 18-15. The Wildcats clawed back with a 5-1 run to take their first lead of the match at 20-19. Virginia Wesleyan went on a 3-1 run to take a 22-21 lead. Randolph countered with a 3-0 run to lead 24-22, but VWU rallied, going on a 4-0 run to win set one 26-24.
Virginia Wesleyan kept its momentum from the first set and built a 9-2 lead early in set two. The Wildcats responded with a 5-1 run to cut the lead to 10-7. The host continued to chip away at the Marlins' lead and, after a 4-1 run midway through the set, found themselves up 18-17. However, the Marlins responded with an 8-1 run to win set two 25-19.
In the third set, Randolph came out strong, jumping out to a 7-4 lead, but VWU countered with a 7-1 run to take an 11-8 lead. The Wildcats had a brief 3-1 rally, but the Marlins continued their good run of play and went on a 4-0 run to lead 16-11. The rest of the set was hard fought as the two teams traded points, with the Wildcats gaining some momentum with a 3-1 run to make it 20-17. However, the Marlins kept swinging and went on to win set three 25-21.
