The Virginia Wesleyan women's lacrosse team (8-6, 4-3 ODAC) fell to the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon in an away game by a score of 17-4.
Adrianna Gunther led the Marlins with one goal on two shots, one assist, two ground balls, and five draw controls.
Shaunice Rone tallied one goal on one shot and three draw controls.
Melissa Dolt spent all sixty minutes in goal for the Marlins and recorded 11 saves while letting in 17 goals.
The Yellow Jackets charged ahead to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter while keeping the Marlins to zero.
At the start of the second quarter, Randolph-Macon added two more goals to lead 8-0 with 8:52 on the clock. The Marlins responded with back-to-back unassisted goals by
Gabriella Watton and
Shaunice Rone to bring the score to 8-2. The Yellow Jackets regained control of the quarter with a 4-0 run to go up 12-2.
The Yellow Jackets began the third quarter with two goals to extend their lead to 14-2. In the eighth minute of play,
Gianna Delevan scored for the Marlins off an assist by
Adrianna Gunther to bring the score to 14-3; and Randolph Macon tallied another goal with just 14 seconds left in the quarter to enter the final period with a dominating 15-3 lead.
Randolph-Macon registered their final two goals of the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter. With less than six minutes remaining,
Adrianna Gunther scored the final goal of the game from the free position to end the game with a score of 17-4 for the hosting Yellow Jackets.
