The Virginia Wesleyan women's lacrosse team (8-5, 4-2 ODAC) celebrated senior day with a 16-7 victory over Guilford College.
The Marlins honored four seniors:
Shaunice Rone,
Sophia Bourassa,
Adrianna Gunther, and
Madison Pfister.
Madison Pfister led the Marlin offense with five goals off seven shots, one assist, one ground ball, two caused turnovers, and six draw controls.
Adrianna Gunther had an outstanding performance with three goals off five shots, four ground balls, two caused turnovers, and nine draw controls.
The Marlins were first to score as
Adrianna Gunther scored an unassisted goal less than four minutes into the first quarter. Just over a minute later, the Quakers scored a goal to level the game at 1-1.
Shaunice Rone scored the second Marlin goal of the day with 9:29 on the clock; and 18 seconds later,
Madison Pfister scored off an assist by
Gianna Delevan. The final goal of the quarter was scored by Guilford to bring the score to 3-2 with the Marlins ahead.
Guilford tied the game at 3-3 to begin the second quarter; but the Marlins responded with three consecutive goals by
Madison Pfister,
Adrianna Gunther, and
Kenna Duplechin to capture a 6-3 lead. The Quakers managed to bridge the gap as they outscored the Marlins 2-1 in the remainder of the second quarter to put the score at 7-5 for VWU.
Gianna Delevan and
Adrianna Gunther scored back-to-back goals to begin the third quarter, giving the Marlins a 9-5 lead.
Madison Pfister was assisted by Kaila Wees as she scored her third goal of the game; and seconds later,
Shaunice Rone followed up with an unassisted goal to bring the score to 11-5. Guilford managed to score a single goal to end the third quarter.
The Quakers scored a goal with 10:26 remaining in the final quarter of play to bridge the scoring gap to 11-7; but VWU regained control of the game with five straight goals.
Gianna Delevan scored an unassisted goal with 9:42 on the clock. Next to score was
Creelyn Bastinelli assisted by
Madison Pfister; and 13 seconds later,
Madison Pfister scored off an assist by
Gabriella Watton. The final two goals of the game were scored by
Kaila DeWees and
Creelyn Bastinelli to seal the 16-7 win for the Marlins on Senior Day.
