The Virginia Wesleyan women's lacrosse team (4-4, 1-1 ODAC) dominated Randolph College, winning 16-2. Six different Marlins were goal-scorers in today's victory.
Reese Morgenthaler led the Marlins with five goals off six shots; she also tallied one ground ball, two caused turnovers, and three draw controls.
Gabriella Watton was also a major contributor with three goals off four shots, and three assists.
Melissa Dolt held down the goal for the entire sixty minutes with five saves and allowed two goals.
The Marlins came out hot with three goals in the first three minutes of play, scored by
Reese Morgenthaler,
Gianna Delevan, and
Madison Pfister. Morgenthaler recorded her second goal of the day off an assist by
Adrianna Gunther to stretch the VWU lead to 4-0 with 10:13 on the clock.
Creelyn Bastinelli was next to score with a shot from the free position to put the Marlins ahead 5-0. With 6:34 on the clock,
Reese Morgenthaler struck an unassisted goal bringing the score to 6-0.
Creelyn Bastinelli shone in the final minutes of the first quarter with back-to-back goals to put the Marlins in front 8-0.
Gabriella Watton scored an unassisted goal less than thirty seconds into the second quarter. Reese Morganthaler followed up with a goal from the free position, which gave the Marlins a convincing 10-0 lead.
Gianna Delevan tallied her second goal with 9:28 on the clock; and
Reese Morgenthaler recorded her fourth goal with 6:54 on the clock, putting VWU ahead 12-0.
Gabriella Watton continued her aggressive play with another goal to start the third quarter to bring the score to 13-0. The Marlins allowed two goals from the WildCats in the final six minutes of play to minimize the VWU lead to 13-2.
The Marlins kept Randolph to zero goals in the final quarter of play and tallied three more of their own.
Creelyn Bastinelli and
Gabriella Watton each registered unassisted goals while
Adrianna Gunther scored off an assist by Watton to end the game 16-2.
Next, the Marlins will host Ferrum College for another ODAC contest on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m.
