The Virginia Wesleyan women's lacrosse team (5-4, 2-1 ODAC) defeated conference opponent, Ferrum College, 8-3 to extend their winning streak to three.
Reese Morgenthaler led the Marlins with four goals off five shots, two assists, two ground balls, six caused turnovers, and two draw controls.
Madison Pfister recorded two goals off two shots, three ground balls, three caused turnovers, and one draw control.
Melissa Dolt played the entire game in goal for the Marlins, allowing three goals and recording eight saves.
The first goal of the game was scored by VWU's
Reese Morgenthaler from the free position with 12:25 on the clock. With less than two minutes remaining in the quarter, Ferrum tied the game at 1-1.
Reese Morgenthaler began the second quarter with a goal assisted by
Gabriella Watton to put the Marlins ahead 2-1 in the third minute of the period. Ferrum responded with two consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead with 18 seconds on the clock. With just three seconds remaining in the period,
Madison Pfister scored off an assist by
Gianna Delevan to tie the game once again at 3-3.
The Marlins regained the lead as
Gabriella Watton tallied a goal off an assist by
Reese Morgenthaler to begin the third quarter. With nine minutes remaining,
Gianna Delevan stretched the VWU lead to 5-3 off an assist by
Reese Morgenthaler.
Daphne Myers assisted
Madison Pfister to put the Marlins ahead of the Panthers 6-3 with 11:08 on the clock in the final quarter of play. The final two points of the game were unassisted goals scored by
Reese Morgenthaler to seal the 8-3 Marlin victory.
Tomorrow, the Marlins will host non-conference opponent, Mount Alonysius College, at 3 p.m.
