Marlins Defeat Wilkes 3-1 on the Road

The Virginia Wesleyan University men's volleyball team (4-2, 1-1 ODAC) defeated Wilkes University 3-1, winning 25-20, 20-25, 25-27, and 25-14. 

JaMarhe Wills led the team with 17 kills, with a .452 hitting percentage, nine digs, one service aces, and one assist, Grant Younie tallied 12 kills, with a .333 hitting percentage, seven digs, ane one service ace, and Matthew Sheppard had eight kills, seven digs, one service ace, and one assist. 

The Marlins started well in the first set with a 3-1 lead, but the Colonels came back with a 5-3 run to tie the set at 6-6. VWU responded with a 5-2 run to take an 11-8 lead. However, Wilkes countered with a 5-2 run to tie the game at 13-13. Virginia Wesleyan went on a 5-2 run to lead 18-15, then the Marlins outscored the host 7-5 the rest of the set to win 25-20 in the first set. 

Wilkes turned the momentum at the start of the second set to lead 3-1, but the Marlins responded with a 6-1 run to lead 7-4. VWU continued their great play with a 5-3 run to lead 12-7, but the Colonels countered with an 8-1 run to take a 15-13 lead. Wilkes outscored the Marlins 4-2 to lead 19-15, but the Marlins came back with a 3-1 run to bring the score to 20-18. The Colonels outscored Virginia Wesleyan 5-2 the rest of the set to win 25-20 to tie the match at 1-1. 

In the third set, the Marlins came out strong jumping out to a 3-1 lead. The two teams traded points to bring the score to 16-12 with the Marlins leading, until the Colonels went on a 3-0 run to bring the score to 16-15. Virginia Wesleyan countered with a 9-2 run to win the third set 9-2. 

The Marlins came out hot in the fourth set building a 6-1 lead early in the fourth set. Virginia Wesleyan kept up the pressure and outscored the Colonels 6-3 to lead 12-4. Wilkes responded with a 4-2 run to bring the score to 14-8, but VWU countered with a 7-2 run to lead 21-10. The Marlins held a healthy lead the rest of the set to win the fourth set 25-14.
