The Virginia Wesleyan University men's volleyball team (6-2, 1-1 ODAC) went 2-0 today with a 3-0 win over King's and a 3-0 victory over Fisher.
Game 1 vs. King's:
JaMarhe Wills led the team with 12 points, nine kills, a .333 hitting percentage, 13 digs, two service aces, and one solo block.
Christian Harris had 10 kills, five digs, four assists, and one block assist, and teammate
Terrell Lee-Rosevelt Taylor tallied six kills, with a .308 hitting percentage, three digs, one service ace, two solo blocks, and two block assist.
King's College held a 4-3 lead early in the set, but the Marlins countered with a 5-0 run to lead 8-4. The Lions scored the next two points to cut the lead to 8-6, but Virginia Wesleyan rallied with a 7-2 run to take a 15-8 lead. VWU continued their hot run of play and outscored the host 10-6 to win the first set 25-14.
Virginia Wesleyan jumped out to an early 6-3 lead, but the Lions strung together a huge 11-1 run to lead 14-7. The Marlins didn't give up and responded with a 5-1 run to bring the score to 15-12. VWU continued their hot streak outscoring King's 9-3 to take a 21-18 lead. The Marlins completed the comeback and won the set 25-23.
The third set was a highly contested affair, that saw King's lead 5-3 early. However, the Marlins went on a 3-1 run to tie the set at 6-6. The Lions countered with a 4-2 run to lead 10-8. Virginia Wesleyan responded with a 7-3 run to take a 15-13 lead. The two teams traded points to bring the score to 18-17, then the Lions went on a 4-0 run to lead 21-18. Virginia Wesleyan scored the next two points to bring the score to 21-20. Each team traded points to tie the set at 24-24, then VWU went on a 4-1 run to win the third set 28-26.
Game 2 vs. Fisher:
Matthew Sheppard led the team and recorded nine kills, with a .429 hitting percentage and four service aces.
Aiden Parker registered nine kills with a .692 hitting percentage, one dig, one assist, and one service ace, and teammate
Beckham Rombaoa led the team with 30 assists, seven service aces, five digs, and one kill.
The Marlins came out strong in the first set building a 13-3 lead, but the Falcons responded with a 6-4 run to bring the score to 17-9. Virginia Wesleyan fought hard to go on an 8-2 run to win the first set 25-11.
Virginia Wesleyan kept their strong offense in the second set jumping out to a 7-1 lead early. The teams traded points to bring the score to 12-5, but the Falcons countered with a 5-4 run to bring the score to 16-10. VWU went on a 9-2 run to win the second set 25-12.
In the third set, the Marlins went on a 17-4 run to hold a massive lead. Virginia Wesleyan went on an 8-4 run the rest of the set to win 25-8.
