The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team (1-0) defeated non-conference opponent NC Wesleyan 24-1 in the 2025 season opener.
Reese Morgenthaler led the team with five goals on seven shots, four draw controls, and two ground balls.
Gianna Delevan had a hat-trick on four shots, and teammate
Adrianna Gunther recorded two goals, one assist, eight draw controls, and one ground ball.
Melissa Dolt registered the win in net playing all 60 minutes and allowed one goal in the game.

Gianna Delevan scored first with an unassisted goal at the 14:02 mark, and
Reese Morgenthaler scored next with an unassisted goal at the 13:57 mark.
Madison Pfister scored with an assist from Daphne Meyers to lead 3-0 at the 12:49 mark. Morgenthaler scored off a free position shot with 12:11 in the first quarter and
Daphne Myers scored to increase the Marlins lead to 5-0 at the 11:30 mark.
Shaunice Rone scored several minutes later followed by a goal from
Kenna Duplechin to bring the score to 7-0. VWU's
Creelyn Bastinelli scored on a free position shot at the 5:02 mark, and
Reese Morgenthaler scored with a nice feed from
Daphne Myers. Bastinelli scored her second and third goal at the 3:47 mark and 1:52 mark to lead 11-0.
Gianna Delevan scored the 12th goal of the game for VWU to lead 12-0 after one quarter of play.
VWU outscored NC Wesleyan 4-0 in the second with goals from
Gianna Delevan, and
Madison Pfister with an assist from Gunther,
Reese Morgenthaler, and
Adrianna Gunther to lead 16-0 at halftime.
The Marlins kept up the pressure and outscored the Bishops 6-1 in the third quarter to lead 22-1 with goals from Rone, Morgenthaler,
Gabriella Watton, and Ramsey.
Virginia Wesleyan had two goals in the fourth from me and me to seal the 24-1 win over NC Wesleyan.
