Helen Kennedy-Butler scored the first goal of the contest off a feed from
Mikayla Szudera. The Monarchs responded with back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead. Kennedy-Butler found the back of the net a second time, assisted by
Natalie Dunn to tie the game up a two apiece.
Michaela Elston scored off a pass from Kennedy-Butler to tie the game at 3-3. Methodist went up 4-3, but the Marlins responded with two goals by
Mikayla Szudera assisted by
Camryn Gavula, then

The Monarchs scored two goals to start the second quarter taking a 7-5 lead. However, Virginia Wesleyan fought back with goals from
Mikayla Szudera assisted by
Natalie Dunn, and Kennedy-Butler scored an unassisted goal tying the game at 7-7. Methodist scored a goal to take an 8-7 lead just before halftime.
Methodist extended their lead in the third quarter as they outscored the Marlins 4-2 to lead 12-9 heading into the final frame. Gavula scored an unassisted goal at eh 6:24 mark, and
Shaunice Rone scored off a feed from Kennedy-Butler.
The Marlins' comeback started in the fourth, with a goal from
Natalie Dunn off a feed from Szudera. Then, Elston scored an unassisted goal to come within one of the Monarchs. Methodist scored a goal to go up 13-11 but Virginia Wesleyan kept fighting and scored three unanswered goals to take a 14-13 lead. Elston scored to bring the game to 13-12, then
Madison Pfister scored to tie the game at 13 all, and finally, Elston scored at the 2:51 mark to take a 14-13 lead.
Brittneyann Hoover had a great game with two big saves to hold off the Monarchs. She recorded the win in the net, playing all 60 minutes, and tallied 10 saves.
