Marlins Head Back to CNU to Participate in Fall Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan Men's Tennis Team headed back to CNU for the 2nd time in two weeks to take part in another CNU Fall Invitational.  Other teams taking part in the event were nationally-ranked CNU along with Division I Longwood University and Norfolk State University.

Highlights for the Marlins included taking 2-of-3 doubles matches against Longwood.  In the #2 doubles flight, junior Kenny Downing and senior Tyler Chang defeated Longwood's Florian Uffer and Lachlan Manser 8-6 while seniors Drew Tomajczyk and Spenser Bullock won against the Lancers team of Bharani Sankar and Rosen Ilchev 8-6 at the #3 flight.

In the #1 doubles flight, senior Graham Wilson and sophomore Adam Rosemblaum had several match points against Longwood's Alfonso Castellano and Julian Farthing but could not convert and fell 9-7 in a hard-fought match that lasted over an hour and a half.

"We competed harder and with more resiliency this weekend," head coach Marty Perry said. "It was a privilege for us to take part in two quality tournaments in back to back weekends in the fall where we faced tough competition every time we stepped on the court.  Hopefully we can learn from these four days of competition and head into ITA regionals with confidence that we're competing at a level consistent with ranked teams in our region."

Next up for the Marlins is the ITA regional tournament hosted by the University of Mary Washington October 3-5.
