The Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team was defeated by Grinnell 6-1 in non-conference play.
Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis came up short on Tuesday, falling 6-1 to Grinnell despite a standout performance at the top of the lineup.
The Marlins opened doubles play on a high note at No. 1, where Josh Buckland and Ayaan Choudhary delivered a dominant 6-0 victory to give Virginia Wesleyan early momentum. However, Grinnell answered back in the other two flights, including a retirement at No. 2 doubles, to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead into singles.
In singles action, Choudhary provided the highlight of the afternoon with a gritty straight-set win at No. 1. He edged Lucas Willet in a tightly contested battle, 7-5, 7-5, showcasing resilience in key moments to secure the Marlins' lone point.
Grinnell controlled the remainder of singles play, picking up wins at Nos. 2 through 6 in straight sets. Tudor Vlad, Sebastien Muller, and Josh Buckland each faced tough matchups in the middle of the lineup, while Timothy Gitomirski and Frederik Bethkenhagen battled but couldn't turn the tide in the later flights.
