The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team battled through several tightly contested matches on Saturday but came up just short in a 4–3 loss to Averett.
In doubles play, Averett claimed the opening point by winning two of the three courts. Virginia Wesleyan picked up its doubles victory at the No. 3 position as Tudor Vlad and Hovo Madanyan secured a hard-fought 7–6 win.
The Marlins responded in singles action with three victories across the lineup. Ayaan Choudhary delivered a comeback win at No. 1 singles, rallying after dropping the first set to defeat Satwik Kollepalli 3–6, 6–2, 6–4.
Sebastien Muller added another point for Virginia Wesleyan at No. 4 singles. After falling in the opening set, Muller bounced back to take the next two sets and earn a 1–6, 6–1, 6–3 victory.
Simon Oster earned the Marlins' third point of the afternoon with a strong performance at No. 5 singles, defeating Roger Pamies Petit in straight sets, 6–2, 6–2.
Despite the strong singles efforts, Averett secured wins on the remaining courts to narrowly take the overall team match.
