The Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team went 1-1 on the day, with a 4-3 win over Frostburg State and dropping a 5-2 contest to Hampton University.
Game One:
Virginia Wesleyan battled to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Frostburg State, using a strong doubles showing and clutch singles play to secure the win.
The Marlins jumped out to an early advantage by claiming two of three doubles matches. The No. 1 duo of Ayaan Choudhary and Jed Platts earned a 6-3 win, while Josh Buckland and Hovo Madanyan dominated at No. 3 doubles with a 6-0 sweep to give VWU the doubles point.
In singles play, Frostburg State fought back to make things tight, but Virginia Wesleyan found key victories when it mattered most. Choudhary delivered a hard-fought three-set win at the top spot, grinding out a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 decision.
The Marlins also received dominant straight-set performances from Frederik Bethkenhagen at No. 5 singles and Natan Aerts at No. 6, with both players winning convincingly to provide crucial points in the overall tally.
Game Two:
The Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Hampton University.
Hampton seized early momentum by taking two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The Marlins' lone win came at No. 3 doubles, where Alen Curovic and Hovo Madanyan delivered a strong 6-1 victory.
In singles play, Hampton controlled the top of the lineup, winning the first four positions in straight sets to secure the match. Virginia Wesleyan found success in the lower half, earning wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Josh Buckland cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5, while Hovo Madanyan followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 performance at No. 6.
Despite the strong finishes from Buckland and Madanyan, the Marlins were unable to overcome Hampton's early lead and depth at the top of the lineup.
