Virginia Wesleyan edged out a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Methodist University on the road. The Marlins improve to 6-5 on the season with the narrow win.
In doubles play, Virginia Wesleyan secured the crucial point by winning two of the three matches. The duo of Ayaan Choudhary and Jed Platts set the tone with a dominant 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. Josh Buckland and Hovo Madanyan followed with a strong 6-2 win in the No. 3 position to clinch the doubles point, while Methodist picked up the lone win at No. 2 doubles.
Singles play proved to be tightly contested, with the teams splitting the six matches. Jed Platts delivered a convincing straight-set win at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0, to give the Marlins an early edge. Sebastien Muller battled back after dropping the first set to earn a three-set victory at No. 3 singles, winning 0-6, 6-3, 6-3. Sava Kmekic added another point for Virginia Wesleyan at No. 6 singles after his opponent retired, with Kmekic leading 5-4 at the time.
Methodist claimed wins at No. 1, No. 4, and No. 5 singles to keep the match close, but the Marlins' earlier doubles success and key singles performances proved to be the difference in the one-point victory.
