Marlins Go Undefeated Over the Weekend, Sweep Guilford on Senior Day

The Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team (9-5, 2-2 ODAC) went 2-0 this weekend with two 7-0 sweeps over Hampden-Sydney and Guilford. 

Before the start of the Guilford match, the Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team took a moment to honor its two-member senior class of Hovo Madanyan and Alen Curovic

Game Two:
Against Guilford, the Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team capped a dominant day with another emphatic 7-0 sweep, this time shutting out Guilford College in a wire-to-wire victory.

The Marlins wasted no time taking control in doubles play, quickly locking up the opening point. At No. 1 doubles, the pairing of Ayaan Choudhary and Jed Platts cruised to a 6-1 win, setting the tone early. Alen Curovic and Hovo Madanyan followed suit at No. 2 with a solid 6-4 victory. Virginia Wesleyan secured the doubles sweep at No. 3 by forfeit, as Veikko Sivonen and Frieso ter Schiphorst were awarded the win, giving the Marlins a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.

Singles play was just as dominant, with Virginia Wesleyan controlling every court. At the top spot, Choudhary delivered a flawless performance, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 win. Platts mirrored that dominance at No. 2 singles, earning a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory.

At No. 3, Anas Benbrahim turned in one of the most commanding efforts of the day, shutting out his opponent 6-1, 6-0. Curovic continued the momentum at No. 4 with a strong 6-3, 6-1 win.

Madanyan secured the fifth point in singles after taking the first set 6-0 before his opponent retired, while the Marlins picked up the final point at No. 6 by forfeit to complete the sweep.

Game One:
In the match against Hampden-Sydney, the Marlins delivered a dominant performance on Sunday afternoon, sweeping Hampden-Sydney College 7-0 in a complete team effort at home.

The Marlins set the tone early by securing all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. At the top spot, the duo of Jed Platts and Ayaan Choudhary controlled play from the start, earning a decisive 6-0 victory. In the No. 2 position, Alen Curovic and Sebastien Muller followed with a strong 6-4 win, while Josh Buckland and Veikko Sivonen matched that scoreline at No. 3 doubles, closing out a 6-4 decision to complete the sweep.

Carrying momentum into singles, Virginia Wesleyan continued to dominate across the lineup. At No. 1 singles, Choudhary battled through a competitive match, securing a 7-5, 6-3 win. Platts faced a back-and-forth contest at No. 2, ultimately prevailing in three sets, 6-0, 0-6, 7-5.

Muller delivered a commanding performance at No. 3 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Buckland added another point at No. 4, overcoming a second-set setback to win 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Curovic remained steady at No. 5, earning a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 win.

Rounding out the sweep, Natan Aerts showed resilience at No. 6 singles. After dropping the first set, Aerts responded with a strong comeback to claim the match 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
