NORFOLK, Va. -- Sophomore Taylor Chang (Hvre de Grace, Md./Tome School) turned in a solid effort at No. 5 singles for Virginia Wesleyan College's men's tennis team in its season opener, but the No. 22-ranked Washington and Lee University Generals were too much to handle.

Washington and Lee won 9-0 to improve to 2-0 and to 1-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), while VWC fell to 0-1.  The match, originally slated to be played at VWC's Everett Tennis Center, was moved to the indoor courts at Old Dominion University's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center due to inclement weather.

Chang dropped a thrilling 7-6 (7-3) decision to Vincent Kim (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook Kingwood) in the first set, but Kim came back strong in the second set for a 6-1 win.

Sophomore Tyler Searcy (Virginia Beach/Frank W. Cox) also recorded a competitive match at No. 6 singles. He dropped a 6-1 decision toBrian Krouskos (Alpharetta, Ga./Mount Pisgah Christian) in the first set, but pushed Krouskos in the second set before falling 6-4.

Sophomore Drew Tomajczyk (Chesterfield/Home schooled) and junior Griffin Graves (Middleburg/Middleburg Academy) produced the highlight match in doubles for Virginia Wesleyan.  The duo was competitive from start to finish, but dropped an 8-4 decision to the Generals' Will Bannister (Bath, England/Beechen Cliff School) and Krouskos.

Virginia Wesleyan will compete again on Friday, March 7, hosting Guilford College in another ODAC match, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Everett Tennis Center.
