Virginia Wesleyan Dominates Early, Holds Off Lynchburg for Road Win

Virginia Wesleyan turned in a strong all-around performance Sunday afternoon, defeating Lynchburg 5-2 on the road. The Marlins seized early momentum by sweeping doubles play and carried that advantage through singles competition to secure the win.

The doubles point proved decisive, as Virginia Wesleyan controlled all three courts. Jed Platts and Hovo Madanyan led the way with a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, Ayaan Choudhary and Josh Buckland edged out a tight tiebreak match, 7-6 (7-4), while Frieso ter Schiphorst and Veikko Sivonen completed the sweep with a 6-2 win at No. 3.

Holding a 3-0 lead entering singles, the Marlins needed just two wins to clinch, and they got them with authority. Platts delivered a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, and Buckland followed with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 performance at No. 4. Natan Aerts added another straight-sets victory at No. 5, winning 6-2, 6-3, while Frederik Bethkenhag matched that scoreline at No. 6 to round out Virginia Wesleyan's scoring.

Lynchburg's points came at the top of the lineup, as Ayaan Choudhary dropped a match at No. 1 singles and Veikko Sivonen fell in a tightly contested three-set battle at No. 3 that was decided in a 10-point tiebreak.
