The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team competed with resilience on the road but ultimately fell 6-1 to No. 27 Christopher Newport.
In doubles play, the Marlins were unable to secure the early point despite competitive efforts across all three positions. At No. 1 doubles, Jed Platts and Ayaan Choudhary faced a tough matchup and dropped a 6-2 decision. The No. 2 duo of Hovo Madanyan and Alen Curovic also fell 6-1. The closest contest came at No. 3 doubles, where F. ter Schiphorst and Veikko Sivonen pushed their opponents to a tight tiebreak before coming up just short, 7-6 (10-8).
Virginia Wesleyan found its highlight in singles play at the top spot. At No. 1 singles, Platts delivered an impressive comeback victory, rebounding after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 in a hard-fought three-set match.
Elsewhere in singles, the Marlins battled but could not turn momentum into additional points. At No. 2, Sebastien Muller fell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Josh Buckland faced a strong opponent at No. 3 and dropped his match 6-1, 6-1.
No. 4 singles featured another competitive three-set battle, as Natan Aerts opened with a strong first set before ultimately falling 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Timothy Gitomirski at No. 5 and Olaf Van der Stam at No. 6 both competed throughout their matches but were defeated in straight sets.
