The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team (6-5, 1-2 ODAC) showed determination but fell 25-2 at No. 6 Washington and Lee on Saturday in Lexington. Despite facing one of the top teams in the conference, the Marlins battled hard in every quarter and fought for every scoring opportunity.
Daphne Myers and
Creelyn Bastinelli each scored for Virginia Wesleyan, giving the team bright spots in an otherwise challenging outing. Myers opened the scoring for the Marlins in the second quarter at the final second, and Bastinelli added a goal early in the third, showing the team's resilience and persistence.
The Marlins came out focused, working hard to apply pressure and create offensive chances. Even though Washington and Lee jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, Virginia Wesleyan continued to compete, hustling for ground balls, draw controls, and transition opportunities.
Despite the lopsided score, Virginia Wesleyan kept battling in the second half, showing effort in attack and defense while learning from the high-paced matchup. The team will regroup at home and look to build on their offensive opportunities and defensive adjustments in their next ODAC contest.
Virginia Wesleyan heads to Sweet Briar College for their next ODAC matchup on Wednesday, April 1, at 5:00 PM.
