The Virginia Wesleyan University men's volleyball team (11-2, 3-1 ODAC) was defeated by Roanoke 3-0 in conference play.
Siah Hall led the offense with 11 kills, one assist, four digs, one service ace, and one block assist.
Grant Younie tallied eight kills, with one service ace, one block assist, and five digs, and teammate
JaMarhe Wills had eight kill, one assist, one block assist, and four digs.
The first set was a close contest that saw Roanoke hold a 5-4 lead early, but the Marlins rallied with a 6-0 run to take a 10-5 lead. The Maroons chipped away at the Marlins lead and outscored the visitors 9-4 to tie the set at 14-14. The two teams traded points until Roanoke went on a 4-0 run to take a 22-19 lead and went on to win the first set 25-21.
Roanoke started the second set strong, jumping out to a 5-1 lead, but the Marlins responded with a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 6-5. The two teams fought hard, but Roanoke built up a 19-14 lead midway through the set. VWU countered with a 4-0 run to bring the score to 19-18. The Maroons rallied and went on a 3-0 run to lead 22-18, but again Virginia Wesleyan fought back to cut the lead to 22-21. Roanoke finished the set with a 3-1 run to win the second set 25-22.
In the third set, the Marlins jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but the Maroons stormed back to take an 8-5 lead. Roanoke continued their good run of play and after a big 4-0 run found themselves up 21-13. VWU countered with a 3-1 run, but the lead was to great and Roanoke went on to win the third set, 25-16.
