Marlins Sweep Shenandoah 3-0 on the Road

The Virginia Wesleyan University men's volleyball team (8-1, 2-0 ODAC) defeated conference opponent Shenandoah 3-0, winning 25-22, 25-13, and 25-23.

JaMarhe Wills led the team with 15 kills, a .333 hitting percentage, one ace, six digs, and two block assists. Siah Hall had nine kills, with a .286 hitting percentage, one service ace, five digs, and two block assists, and James Cromwell-Young had five kills, two digs, one solo block, and one block assist. Ajaye Davis led the offense with 30 assists, had two kills, one block assist, and two digs.

The Marlins started the first set hot, jumping out to a 5-1 run, but the Hornets fought back with a 6-3 run to cut the lead to 8-7. The two teams traded points to bring the score to 12-11, until the Marlins went on a 3-0 run to increase their lead to 15-11. Shenandoah countered with a 5-1 run to take a 17-16 lead midway through the set, but VWU responded with a 3-0 run to take a 19-17 lead. Shenandoah kept fighting and was able to bring the score to 22-21, but Virginia Wesleyan finished the set with a 3-1 run to seal the 25-22 set one win.

Virginia Wesleyan kept their momentum from the first set as they went ona 3-1 run to being set two. However, Shenandoah responded and was able to tie the set at 5-5. The two teams traded points to bring the score to 10 all, but the Marlins rallied with a 10-2 run to take a 20-12 lead to force a Hornet timeout. The Marlins put the pressure on and went on to win set two 25-13.

A close start in the third set as the teams were tied 5-5 early in the set. Then, VWU went on a 2-0 run to lead 7-5, but Shenandoah responded with a 5-0 run to take a 10-7 lead. Virginia Wesleyan countered with a 4-1 run to tie the game at 11-11, but the Hornets rallied with a 5-1 run to take a 16-12 lead. However, the Marlins responded with a 5-1 run to tie the game at 17-17. Shenandoah ended the run with two straight points, but the Marlins scored the next three points to take a 20-19 lead forcing a SU timeout. The Marlins outscored the Hornets 5-4 the rest of the set to win the third set 25-23.
