The Virginia Wesleyan University men's volleyball team (4-1, 1-0 ODAC) defeated non-conference opponent Regent 3-0, winning 25-11, 25-19, and 25-15.
Siah Hall led the Marlins with nine points, adding six kills with a .417 hitting percentage, two service aces, one assist, six digs, and three block assists.
JaMarhe Wills had seven kills, with a .700 hitting percentage, five digs, one block assist, and one assist, and teammate
Aiden Parker recorded five kills, five digs, three assists, and one service ace.
Ross Echea had a team high five block assists, and added three kills, and
Ajaye Davis led the team with 28 assists, and led the team with 10 digs.
A highly competitive first set saw the teams tied at 7-7, but the Marlins rallied with a 12-2 run to jump out to a 19-9 lead. With a big lead, Virginia Wesleyan outscored the Royals 6-2 to win set one 25-11.
Regent started the second set well, building a 5-1 lead, but VWU countered with a 5-1 lead to tie the set at 6-6. The Marlins continued their good run of play and went on a 5-1 run to take an 11-7 lead to force a Royals timeout. Out of the timeout, Regent went on to outscore the Marlins 8-5 to cut the lead to 16-15, but VWU responded with a 5-2 run to increase their lead to 21-17. VWU finished the set with a 4-2 run to win set two 25-19.
In the third set, the Marlins came out strong jumping out to a 6-3 lead, but Regent countered with a 3-0 run to tie the set at 6-6. Virginia Wesleyan rallied over the next 14 points to go on an 11-3 run to take a commanding 17-9 lead. The Royals scored the next two points, but the Marlins strung together a 6-0 run to increase their lead to 23-11. Regent outscored the Marlins 4-2 the rest of the set, but VWU went on to win the third set 25-15.
