The Virginia Wesleyan women's track and field team competed at the Liberty Open, with several athletes having strong performances throughout the meet.
In the 200 meters, first-year
Mikayla Greene led the Marlins with a time of 26.74 seconds and earning 65th place. She was followed by senior
Anisah Kersey at 27.94 and first-year
Alani Hampton at 29.97.
In the 400 meters, Greene again led the team with a time of 1:03.10 which earned her 52nd placde, while Kersey recorded a 1:07.24 and sophomore
Katelyn Griffin finished in 1:08.09.
In the 800 meters, junior
Ella Clingenpeel posted a overall 25th place time of 2:27.60, with first-year
Ester Zar finishing at an overall 31st place time of 2:31.09 and junior Abby Peck at an overall 43rd place time of 2:38.25.
Abby Peck also competed in the 5,000 meters, recording a time of 19:03.15, where she got 2nd place overall. Zar finished 9th in the 5,000-meter invite with a time of 18:35.08.
In the high jump, junior
Maria Plummer led the Marlins with a jump of 1.41 meters (4-07.50), where she placed 9th. First-year
Alani Hampton paced the long jump in the East Pit with a mark of 4.80 meters (15-09.00) and earned 17th place. Sophomore
Katelyn Griffin and senior
Lyric Hoggard did not start in the event.
Junior
Zantia Durand led the low circle shot put with her season best throw of 10.05 meters (32-11.75) which earned her 7th place, followed by first-year Desi Hill at 8.07 meters (26-05.75) and sophomore
Bailey Schottin at 8.06 meters (26-05.50). In the main circle shot put, senior
Mackenzie Swanson earned a new Division III ranking of 53rd and 12th place with a personal-best throw of 12.23 meters (40-01.50).
In the triple jump, freshman
Alani Hampton continued her strong performances with a leap of 10.00 meters to earn 23rd place.
