Swanson Hit PR at Marlins Invitational to Lead Women's Track and Field

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's track and field team was led by Mackenzie Swanson in the Marlins Invitational.

The Marlins were especially strong in the shot put, highlighted by senior Mackenzie Swanson's runner-up finish. Swanson placed second overall with a throw of 12.29 meters (40 feet, 4 inches), a mark that ranks as a new Division III No. 63 performance. Junior Zantia Durand finished seventh with a throw of 10.25 meters (33 feet, 7.5 inches), while sophomore Bailey Schottin placed eighth at 10.09 meters (33 feet, 1.25 inches). Junior Ashley Dickerson placed 12th with a mark of 8.80 meters (28 feet, 10.5 inches), freshman Desi Hill finished 13th at 8.51 meters (27 feet, 11 inches), and freshman Jade Turner placed 21st with a throw of 6.80 meters (22 feet, 3.75 inches).

In the 60-meter preliminaries, senior Anisah Kersey placed 19th overall after running a time of 8.43 seconds, while junior Maria Plummer finished 26th with a time of 9.33 seconds. Sophomore Katelyn Griffin, freshman Mikayla Greene, and senior Lyric Hoggard each did not start their respective heats.

Kersey also competed in the 200 meters, where she placed 27th overall with a time of 28.11 seconds. Greene was listed as a did not start in her heat.

In the 800 meters, junior Ella Clingenpeel delivered a strong performance, finishing third overall with a time of 2:26.96.

Plummer added another result in the high jump, placing fifth after clearing a height of 1.45 meters (4 feet, 9 inches).

Virginia Wesleyan posted multiple finishes in the long jump, led by Griffin, who placed fifth with a mark of 5.06 meters (16 feet, 7.25 inches). Hoggard followed closely behind in ninth place with a jump of 4.97 meters (16 feet, 3.75 inches), while freshman Alani Hampton placed 17th with a leap of 4.73 meters (15 feet, 6.25 inches).

In the triple jump, Griffin placed ninth with a mark of 10.21 meters (33 feet, 6 inches), while Hampton followed in 10th place with a jump of 9.86 meters (32 feet, 4.25 inches).

Swanson also competed in the weight throw, placing seventh with a toss of 11.71 meters (38 feet, 5 inches). Dickerson finished 12th with a throw of 8.97 meters (29 feet, 5.25 inches), and Hill placed 16th at 7.35 meters (24 feet, 1.5 inches).

The meet concluded with the 4x400-meter relay, where the Virginia Wesleyan "A" squad of Anisah Kersey, Mikayla Greene, Katelyn Griffin, and Ella Clingenpeel placed fourth with a time of 4:36.85.
