The Virginia Wesleyan men's track and field team competed at the Liberty Open with multiple athletes faring well throughout the events.
Sophomore
Jasha Brewington led the Marlins in the 60-meter preliminaries, clocking a 7.32 in the 4th heat, placing 75th. Brewington also posted a season-best 8.55 in the 60-meter hurdles, coming in at 13th place and earning a new Division III national ranking of 85th. Senior
Ja'Marri Henderson added a season-best 8.90 in the same event, placing 27th overall.
In the 400 meters, sophomore
Jasha Brewington led the Marlins with a time of 53.07 and placing 57th overall. Sophomore
Wataru Nakano recorded a personal-best performance in the same event with a time of 57.71.
In the 800 meters, junior
Fisher Stone recorded a personal-best time of 2:02.33 in heat three, coming in 32nd overall. Additional efforts came from
Jerry Watson,
Casey Black, and
Henning Olofsson in the middle-distance races.
Senior
Ryan Koval turned in a personal-best performance, running a 4:44.70 in the mile and placing 46th. He also finished in 29th place with a time of 9:32.73 in the 3,000 meters. Sophomore
Casey Black earned an 8th place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:59.33, while senior
Jerry Watson finished 10th.
Junior
Jordan Fielder led the way in the West Pit with a top jump of 6.08 meters (19-11.50). Sophomore
Jacob Little followed with a mark of 5.61 meters (18-05.00). Junior Da'Quan Smith fouled on his attempt, while senior
Jordan Hall did not compete.
First year
Will Hepburn paced the shot put group with a throw of 10.93 meters (35-10.50), he placed 9th. Senior
Opeyemi Kareem-Ojo recorded a mark of 9.85 meters (32-03.75), and
Malik Williams added a throw of 8.82 meters (28-11.25).
Junior
Jordan Fielder continued his strong performance in the jumps, posting a best leap of 13.75 meters (45-01.50). Freshman AJ Howard fouled in the event.
Senior
Opeyemi Kareem-Ojo led the weight throw with a top mark of 8.92 meters (29-03.25).
Malik Williams fouled on his attempt, while
Will Hepburn did not record a mark.
