Brewington Lead the Men's Track and Field team at the Marlins Invitational

The Virginia Wesleyan University men's track and field team turned in a complete day of performances across the sprints, hurdles, distance events, and field competitions.

Virginia Wesleyan had a strong showing in the 60-meter hurdles. Sophomore Jasha Brewington placed second in the preliminary round, qualifying for the final with a time of 8.36 seconds in heat one. In the final, Brewington earned a third-place finish overall, posting a time of 8.59 seconds.

Brewington also competed in the men's 200 meters, where he finished 34th with a time of 23.21 seconds in heat 11. Nakano did not start his heat in the event.

In the men's 60-meter dash preliminaries, junior Da'Quan Smith finished 37th overall with a time of 7.47 seconds out of heat five. Sophomore Wataru Nakano followed with a 44th-place finish, crossing the line in 7.79 seconds in heat eight, while sophomore Jacob Little did not start his preliminary heat.

In the 400 meters, freshman Henning Olofsson recorded a 47th-place finish, running 58.32 seconds in heat five. Nakano again did not start his scheduled heat.

The men's 800 meters saw senior Ryan Koval place 19th overall with a time of 2:09.40 in heat three. Junior Matthew Hodge followed closely behind, finishing 29th in the same heat with a time of 2:18.02.

Junior Fisher Stone delivered one of the top distance performances of the day for the Marlins in the men's one mile, placing fourth overall with a time of 4:43.08 in heat one.

In the field events, senior Jordan Hall placed 12th in the men's long jump, recording a mark of 5.97 meters (19 feet, 7 inches). Freshman AJ Howard finished 20th with a jump of 4.02 meters (13 feet, 2.25 inches).

The Marlins competed in the men's shot put with three athletes. Freshman Will Hepburn led the group with an 18th-place finish after throwing 11.59 meters (38 feet, 0.25 inches). Senior Opeyemi Kareem-Ojo placed 22nd with a mark of 10.36 meters (34 feet), and junior Malik Williams finished 24th with a throw of 9.84 meters (32 feet, 3.5 inches).

In the men's triple jump, junior Jordan Fielder placed sixth overall with a jump of 13.33 meters (43 feet, 8.75 inches). Smith added a 14th-place finish after recording a jump of 12.40 meters (40 feet, 8.25 inches). Howard recorded a foul, and Little did not start the event.

The men's weight throw featured another trio of Marlins. Hepburn placed 23rd with a throw of 11.04 meters (36 feet, 2.75 inches), Williams followed in 24th at 10.73 meters (35 feet, 2.5 inches), and Kareem-Ojo finished 25th with a mark of 10.16 meters (33 feet, 4 inches).

Virginia Wesleyan closed the meet with an impressive relay performance in the 4,000-meter distance medley. The quartet of Jerry Watson, Henning Olofsson, Ryan Koval, and Casey Black placed second overall with a time of 11:37.05, setting a new NCAA Division III No. 37 time.
