Marlins Shine in Home Tri-Meet Beating Barton and Chowan on Senior Day

Virginia Wesleyan University's women's swimming team competed against Chowan University and Barton College on January 10, beating Chowan 131-39 and Barton 97-84.

Before the start of the meet, the Virginia Wesleyan University women's swimming program honors its three seniors; Abigail Carlson, Erin Beaudry, and Sarah Czapp

Lana Macchi captured first place in the 50-yard breaststroke by touching the wall in 32.74 to break the school record, while Abigail Carlson finished third with a time of 33.75. Lora Young won the 100-yard butterfly, recording a first-place time of 1:08.81.

The Marlins opened the meet in the 200-yard medley relay, where the "A" relay of Suzanna Fernandez, Lana Macchi, Lora Young, and Emery Garza placed second with a time of 1:57.89, while the "B" relay of Erin Beaudry, Abigail Carlson, Sarah Czapp, and Ella Boal finished third in 2:06.15.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Suzanna Fernandez earned a second-place finish with a time of 2:24.80, and Ella Boal followed in third place at 2:30.19. Erin Beaudry placed third in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 31.73

Emery Garza earned a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.85, and Sarah Czapp placed fourth in the event at 27.29. Macchi continued her strong meet by winning the 100-yard freestyle in 57.10, while Boal finished third with a time of 1:10.01.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Fernandez placed third with a time of 1:11.76. Young added another podium finish by taking second place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:07.29.

The Marlins recorded a pair of tied second-place finishes in the 50-yard butterfly, as Erin Beaudry and Sarah Czapp both touched the wall in 30.90. Garza earned another event victory in the 100-yard individual medley, winning the race in 1:05.08, while Carlson finished third with a time of 1:12.97.

To close the meet, the Virginia Wesleyan "A" 200-yard freestyle relay team of Macchi, Fernandez, Young, and Garza placed second with a time of 1:47.79, and the "B" relay of Carlson, Czapp, Beaudry, and Boal finished third in 1:54.01.
