The Virginia Wesleyan University men's swimming team turned in several standout performances during a tri-meet against Chowan University and Barton College on January 10. As they defeated Chowan 102-84 and lost to Barton 123.5-83.5.
Before the start of the meet, the Men's Swimming Program honored its two Seniors Logan Schohn and Cael Long.
The Marlins began the meet in the 200-yard medley relay, where the "A" relay of Mason Pifer, Cael Long, Tommy Saeger, and Reilly Shaffer placed second with a time of 1:42.29, while the "B" relay of Camden Holmes, Brayden Canterburry, Gavin Wehr, and Logan Schohn finished fourth in 1:54.60.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Pifer earned a third-place finish with a time of 2:00.02, and Holmes followed in fifth place at 2:11.71. Cael Long tied for first place in the 50-yard backstroke, posting a winning time of 25.37.
Brayden Canterburry finished third in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.97, and Gavin Wehr placed fourth in 34.74. Tommy Saeger secured first place in the 100-yard butterfly by recording a time of 55.44.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Brandon Temple placed second with a time of 22.53, Reilly Shaffer finished third at 24.27, and Logan Schohn placed fifth in 26.27. Shaffer added another third-place result in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.24, while Schohn finished fourth in 57.36 and Canterburry placed fifth at 57.57.
During the 100-yard backstroke, Pifer earned a third-place finish with a time of 1:02.59, and Holmes followed closely in fourth at 1:04.25. Temple claimed first place in the 50-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 24.61, while Wehr placed fourth with a time of 28.32.
In the 100-yard individual medley, Long placed third with a time of 55.90, and Saeger finished fourth in 59.65.
The meet concluded with the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the Virginia Wesleyan "A" team of Long, Saeger, Pifer, and Shaffer placed third with a time of 1:34.71, and the "B" relay of Temple, Wehr, Schohn, and Canterburry finished fourth in 1:38.89.
