The Virginia Wesleyan University men's volleyball team (17-10, 8-4 ODAC) was defeated by Randolph-Macon 3-0, losing 25-19, 25-22, and 25-22.
The Marlins offense was led by
JaMarhe Wills with 13 kills, a .333 hitting percentage, one block assist, and three digs, Terell Lee-Roosevelt Taylor recorded six kills, a .556 hitting percentage, two solo block, two block assists, and one service ace, and
Christian Harris registered seven kills, one assists, one service ace, and five digs.
The Yellow Jackets started well building a 5-3 lead early in the first set. However, the Marlins outscored Randolph-Macon 9-7 to tie the set at 12-12 midway through the set. The Yellow Jackets went on a 5-2 run to take a 17-14 lead and followed that with a 4-2 run to extend their lead to 21-16. RMC outscored VWU 4-3 the rest of the set to win 25-19.
In the second set, the Marlins came out and went ahead 4-3 early, but the Yellow Jackets responded with a 5-3 run to lead 8-7. The two teams traded points to bring the score to 11-11. RMC rallied with a 4-0 run to force a VWU timeout. After the break, the Marlins went on a 7-2 run to take an 18-17 lead to force a Randolph-Macon timeout. The Yellow Jackets responded with a 4-0 run to take a 21-18 lead, but the Marlins countered with a 4-2 run to bring the score to 23-22. RMC won the next two points to win the set 25-22.
In the third set, the host jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but the Marlins responded with a 4-1 run to tie the set at 6-6. The Yellow Jackets strung together a 4-1 run to lead 10-7, but VWU countered with a 3-1 run to cut the Yellow Jackets lead to 11-10. RMC rallied with a 4-1 run to extend their lead to 15-11, VWU fought back with a 5-3 run to bring the score to 18-16. The Yellow Jackets again built a cushion with a 4-2 run to lead 22-19. Virginia Wesleyan rallied with a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 23-22, but the Yellow Jackets score the next two points to seal the 3-0 win over the Marlins.
