The Virginia Wesleyan baseball team (6-15, 2-12 ODAC) fell to ODAC opponent, Randolph-Macon 11-1.
John Bastiaans and
Josh Goodrich led the Marlins with two hits on three at bats each; and
Nick Valentin tallied one hit and scored the lone Marlin run of the day.
The Marlins recorded two hits to begin the top of the first inning, but were unable to convert any runs. Randolph Macon scored one run at the bottom of the first inning and stacked on five more at the bottom of the second to take a 6-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets stretched their lead to seven in the bottom of the fourth.
Virginia Wesleyan scored their only run of the day in the top of the sixth.
Nick Valentin reached first base on a fielder's choice and advanced to third off a single by
Josh Goodrich. Then, Valentin managed to score off a sacrifice bunt by
Nick Sylvester to put the Marlins on the board at 7-1.
Randolph-Macon added two runs both at the bottom of the sixth and seventh to close out the game 11-1 over the visiting Marlins.
The Marlins are scheduled to travel to Salisbury University for a game at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10.
