The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team (9-8, 5-5 ODAC) shut out Sweet Briar in the final regular season game of 2025.
Reese Morgenthaler led the team as she tallied five goals, and five assists on five shots, with seven draw controls,
Daphne Myers registered two goals, six assists, with one ground ball, and caused one turnover, and
Madison Pfister recorded three goals, and two assists with three shots, two ground balls, and had ten draw controls.
Melissa Dolt got her ninth win of the season, and the first shutout of 2025 and tallied one save in the win.
Virginia Wesleyan came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter, dominating Sweet Briar with a 14-0 lead by the end of the period. The scoring spree started early with
Reese Morgenthaler netting the first goal at 14:44, assisted by
Madison Pfister. The team continued to pile on the goals, with
Gianna Delevan,
Adrianna Gunther, and
Madison Pfister all contributing. Morgenthaler added a second goal shortly after, with
Creelyn Bastinelli,
Daphne Myers, and
Shaunice Rone also getting on the scoreboard. By the time the quarter ended, Virginia Wesleyan had a commanding 14-0 lead.
The second quarter saw the Marlins extend their lead even further.
Daphne Myers started the scoring at 13:48 with an assist from
Shaunice Rone, and
Reese Morgenthaler followed up with a goal of her own at 12:05. The team remained relentless, with
Creelyn Bastinelli scoring at 4:42, and
Jasmine Gorney adding another goal just before the half at 00:56. By the end of the second period, Virginia Wesleyan had firmly asserted its dominance, leading 18-0.
VWU continued its onslaught in the third quarter, scoring an additional eight goals.
Adrianna Gunther was a key figure, scoring three times in the period, with the first of her goals coming at 14:07. Other players continued to contribute, with
Creelyn Bastinelli and
Gianna Delevan each scoring a goal, and Morgenthaler added another unassisted goal at 8:16. The offensive depth was on full display as the team moved to a 24-0 lead with two minutes remaining.
Sophia Bourassa and
Joy Ramsey each found the back of the net before the quarter ended, making the score 26-0 heading into the final period.
