The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team (6-4, 2-1 ODAC) defeated non-conference opponent Mount Aloysius 18-7 for their fourth straight win.
The Marlins offense was led by
Reese Morgenthaler who had six goals, six ground balls, won 10 draw controls, and caused three turnovers.
Gianna Delevan scored three goals and had two assists with one ground ball, and teammate
Madison Pfister scored four goals, with one assist, and three draw controls.
Melissa Dolt got her sixth win of the season, played all 60 minutes, allowed seven goals, and made seven saves.
The game began with Mount Aloysius taking an early lead off an unassisted goal at 12:10 in the first period. However, Virginia Wesleyan quickly responded with five unanswered goals, including a stretch from 10:12 to 3:55 that saw
Reese Morgenthaler,
Creelyn Bastinelli, and
Kenna Duplechin all score.
Mount Aloysius fought back and scored the first goal of the second period, but the Marlins continued to pull away.
Madison Pfister and
Gianna Delevan each found the back of the net, helping Virginia Wesleyan extend their lead to 10-4 by the end of the second period.
The Marlins were relentless, adding six more goals in the third, including a goal from
Adrianna Gunther and a pair of scores by
Reese Morgenthaler to lead 16-5 after three quarters of play.
Despite Mount Aloysius' continued efforts, Virginia Wesleyan was simply too strong, with Morgenthaler, Pfister, and Delevan continuing to contribute. In the final minutes, the Marlins sealed the win with an 18th goal by Pfister, assisted by Delevan. The game ended with Virginia Wesleyan securing an 18-7 victory.
