Marlins Record First Conference Win Of the Season in 67-48 Win Over Randolph

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team (5-2, 1-1 ODAC) defeated conference opponent Randolph 67-48.

Bre Robinson led the team with 21 points, shooting 4-for-8 from the field, 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and 11-for-12 from the free throw line. She recorded one rebound, two steals, and one assist. Brianna Long registered 17 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the field, with 11 rebounds, and five steals. Jaiden Hunter scored 12 points, shooting 4-for-7 from the field, six rebounds, two assists, one block, and two steals.

The Marlins started strong, building a 14-6 lead at the 4:38 mark. Both teams went on a two-minute scoring drought until the Wildcats made a layup at the 2:42 mark to bring the score to 14-8. VWU went on a 5-3 run to outscore the Wildcats 5-3 and take a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

To start the second quarter, the two teams traded points, but the Marlins narrowly outscored the Wildcats 9-7 to hold a 26-20 lead. In the last four minutes of the second quarter, Virginia Wesleyan went on an 11-4 run to take a big 37-24 lead heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Wildcats went on a 9-2 run to cut the Marlins' lead to 39-33, but the Marlins responded with a 5-0 run over the next 90 seconds to bring the score to 44-33. VWU ended the quarter on a great 10-5 run to hold a 54-38 lead heading into the final frame.

The Wildcats fought back to start the fourth quarter, going on a 6-5 run to cut the lead to 59-44. However, the Marlins responded with a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 63-44 with 6:49 left in the game. The rest of the game, the Marlins held their lead to seal the 67-48 win.
