The Virginia Wesleyan University women's swimming team turned in a strong all-around performance in their tri-meet despite the losses against St. Mary's College of Maryland and Randolph College.
The Marlin women opened the meet with two strong entries in the 200-yard medley relay. The B team of
Erin Beaudry,
Abigail Carlson,
Ally Peck, and
Ella Boal posted a 1:24.00 to take first place. The A team of
Suzanna Fernandez, Lana Macchi,
Sarah Czapp, and
Emery Garza swam to a time of 2:09.36 to claim fourth place in the event.
In distance competition,
Lora Young represented Virginia Wesleyan in the 1650-yard freestyle, earning third place with a time of 21:11.83. In the 200-yard freestyle,
Erin Beaudry led the way for the Marlins with a 2:14.18, while teammate
Ally Peck followed closely behind in 2:19.80.
The sprint events featured some of the team's strongest results. In the 50-yard freestyle,
Emery Garza dominated the field with a winning time of 25.10 seconds.
Sarah Czapp added a 27.81 performance, followed by
Suzanna Fernandez at 27.90 and
Ella Boal at 31.72. In the 100-yard freestyle, freshman standout Lana Macchi finished second overall with a time of 57.50, while Boal rounded out the group in 1:08.69.
In the backstroke events,
Erin Beaudry continued her impressive day by taking first place for Virginia Wesleyan with a 2:27.40 in the 200-yard backstroke. The Marlins also had strong mid-distance performances, with
Suzanna Fernandez clocking a 6:03.84 in the 500-yard freestyle, followed by
Lora Young at 6:05.72 and
Ally Peck at 6:18.56.
Abigail Carlson claimed victory in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 2:48.36 to lead all competitors.
