The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team (5-10, 1-7 ODAC) were defeated 76-31 by No. 6 CNU in non-conference action.
The Captains started well, jumping out to a 7-0 run, but the Marlins chipped away at the lead, going on a 6-3 run to bring the score to 10-6. CNU outscored VWU 6-2 the rest of the quarter to lead 16-8.
In the second quarter, the Captains strung together a 12-0 run before
Jada Norman hit a jumper to stop the run. CNU continued their dominance and went into halftime up 34-11.
Both teams fought hard to start the third quarter, with CNU outscoring the Marlins 6-4. Midway through the quarter, Virginia Wesleyan went on a 6-3 run to cut the lead to 48-22. However, the Captains finished the fourth quarter with a 58-23 lead.
In the final frame, Christopher Newport started strong with a 7-0 run to lead 65-23. CNU kept up the defensive pressure to seal the win.
